Pallet Racks in Portage, MI
We design, quote and install new pallet racks in Portage for life-sciences storage and interstate distribution. Our warehouse racking layouts account for each building’s height, column grid and pallet mix. Portage sits right at the crossing of I-94 and US-131, about six miles from our office. Its industrial ground runs along Sprinkle Road, Portage Road and E. Milham Avenue, with Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport bordering the district.
Two very different jobs come out of this town. Life-sciences warehouses need pallet racking with access to many product lines. The new spec distribution buildings near the interstate need tall, dense rows planned around a wide column grid.
Pallet Racks for Portage Pharma and Medical Devices
Medical devices and pharmaceuticals are a regional strength here, alongside packaging and food processing. Those warehouses carry many SKUs with few pallets each, and every location has to be easy to find and count.
We usually pair selective pallet rack reserve with carton flow pick lanes on the lower levels. Full pallets live above; cases and eaches roll to the picker at waist height. Labels, wire decks and flue gaps are set on the drawing.
Warehouse Racking in a 36 ft Clear Spec Building
New spec distribution buildings near I-94 are going up at 36 ft clear with 50 x 50 ft column spacing and a rail spur on site. That height supports six or more beam levels with the right truck.
A 50 ft bay leaves room for several rows of warehouse pallet racks between columns. With a reach truck we can run 9–10 ft aisles; with very narrow aisle (VNA) equipment, narrower still. We draw both and show the position count each one yields.
- Beam levels set from your tallest load and lift height
- Rows landed between the 50 ft column lines
- Dock-side staging lanes kept clear of the rail spur
Packaging and Food Processing Space
Packaging converters and food processors round out the Portage list. Packaging stock is light but tall, so a beam level fills by height long before weight. Raw rolls and flat stock may suit floor lanes better than rack at all.
Food processors split ingredients, packaging and finished goods into separate zones. We draw each zone for its own load profile and keep finished product nearest the shipping doors so trailers load in one pass.
Whichever user you are, the first measurement is the same: clear height to the lowest light, then column centers and dock count. From there the position math follows quickly.
Pallet Racking for Older Sprinkle Road Buildings
Not every Portage address is new. The older Sprinkle Road stock is smaller light-industrial space, often with cranes and only a few docks. Rack there has to stay out of crane paths and leave turning room near the doors.
Those sites tend to suit shorter pallet rack runs along the walls, with the middle bay left open for the crane. We measure hook height and travel before drawing a single row.
Airport Land and Rail
The airport owns industrial land off Portage Road and Sprinkle Road. One Sprinkle Road parcel about 1.7 miles south of I-94 has possible rail access. If you are planning a build there, send us the drawings early and we will lay out pallet rack systems before steel goes up.
Rail-served receiving changes where bulk pallets land. We keep that inbound zone close to deep storage and keep picking near the truck doors.
